12 Pt. II #MurderMysteryMOnday
On April 23rd 2006, Debra Richardson woke up to noise downstairs in her kitchen and decided to check it out. When she went downstairs and turned the light on she saw a man with a knife and screamed immediately. Upon hearing his wife scream for her life, her husband ran downstairs and grabbed the only weapon he could find, a screw driver. He wrestled with Steinke for a while but unfortunately was stabbed to death just like his wife was. While all of this took place, Jasmine went into her little brothers room and covered his ears as her boyfriend murdered their parents. She then stabbed her brother because it wouldn’t be fair for him to grow up with no parents. (Okay so how about not killing them to begin with??!!)
Later that day a neighbor came over to invite poor Tyler to play with him. After knocking and getting no response he peeked through the window only to see pools of blood splattered everywhere and the sight of his deceased friend. (I can’t imagine what that was like for him 😣) He ran next door to tell the adults what he had seen (I assume his parents but reports didn’t specify. 🤷🏽♀️)
The adults went over to view the vicious atrocity for themselves. The police were then called and at 1 pm on April 23rd 2006 they found the bodies of Marc and Debra Richardson in their basement. The body of their son Tyler Jacob was found upstairs. Police thought immediately thought the murder was personal due to the nature of the crime scene and after seeing a family photo featuring Jasmine, they feared she may have been taken by the murderer. (Now isn’t this ironic? (Technically she was taken by the murderer… to their getaway car 💁🏽♀️)
An amber alert was immediately put out for 12 year old Jasmine Richardson and in less than 24 hours she was arrested with her very own werewolf Jeremy Steinke in Leader, Saskatchewan (this is in Canada FYI and I have no idea how rn pronounce it… I’m sure if I sound it out I can… I’m just being dramatic.) which is 80 miles away from where the murders took place in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. (Medicine Hat? I know this probably isn’t the best time but freaking Medicine Hat? I love Canada 🇨🇦 but they take being “different” to a whole other level sometimes 😂) On May 3rd, 19 year old Kacy Lancaster was charged for being an accessory to the crimes committed. (I know you’re wondering by now, who the hell is Kacy?)
Kacy was a friend of Jeremy Steinke, she drove him and his 12 year old girlfriend away from the crime scene in her pickup truck and helped them to dispose of evidence. (This makes me wonder, who gets up and decides to be a getaway driver? An accomplice? Safe to say she’s dumb.)
According to reports, hours before the evil ordeal, Steinke and his friends watched the 1994 film Natural Born Killers. The movie was about a couple who went on a killing spree, Steinke told his friends that him and Jasmine were going to do something similar but her brother would not be spared. (Coughs, so killing her baby brother was definitely premeditated.)
He even went on to ask an undercover cop if he’d seen the movie, going on to say,
“You ever watch the movie Natural Born Killers?… I think that’s the best love story of all time…”
Let’s talk the outcome, In Canada the youngest age a person can be convicted of murder is 12, thanks to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They can’t be sentenced as adults and can’t be given more than a 10 year sentence. (I have mixed feelings about this, at twelve I knew not to kill my parents.) On July.9,2007, a little after a year of being charged with murder Jasmine Richardson was found guilty of three first-degree murders. She’s said to be the youngest person to be convicted of a multiple murder in Canada. Credit for the time she already spent in prison went towards her sentence. She then had to spend 4 years at a psychiatric facility and 4 1/2 years under conditional supervision in the community.
She was even able to attend college and be out in society. In May of 2016 , Richardson was released with zero conditions. (Yup she’s walking around free.)
Her werewolf on the other hand was sentenced to three life sentences, one for each first degree murder. People have argued that this isn’t fair because Steinke was born to an alcoholic mother and suffered from FAS. I mean it was clear he wasn’t in his right mind because he dated a 12 year old! What could they have had in common hmm? 🧐
What do you think? Should Steinke have received a lighter sentence?
